Paid meetings for Hopso workers to have a say on a new Fair Pay Agreement

Unite Union has been approved to negotiate the first industry-wide Fair Pay Agreement and is working with other unions (Etū and Raise the Bar) to get a better deal for hospo workers. For the first time we will be able to collectively negotiate better minimum terms and conditions (including pay) for the entire sector.

Union and non-union workers alike will be covered by the agreement. It will belong to and apply to every hospitality employee in Aotearoa working in cafés, restaurants, bars, takeaways, accommodation, cinemas, casinos, and other hospitality venues.  Click here for some of the issues and improvements hospo workers have already identified.

If you are rostered to work during the meetings ask your manager to be released on pay to attend one. The Fair Pay Agreements Act 2022 gives you the right to attend and be paid for up to 2 hours (90 minutes for the meeting and 30 minutes total travel to and from your work).
